AMOC is part of a system of currents which move heat around the oceans of the world. It delivers a stupendous flow of that heat-more than 1,000 terawatts-to the north Atlantic. That sounds like the sort of planetary juggernaut it would be incredibly hard for humans (whose global civilization runs are a mere 20 terwatts) to do anything about.
